Native Animals

Many Australian Native animals call Kennett River Holiday Park home. There is a significant population of Koalas in and around the park at Kennett River. With Koalas spending most the day sleeping, evening is the best time to see them. Throughout the quieter times of the year we often have Wallabies come down from the National Park to feed on the grassy sites. Birds are abundant in Kennett River, the King Parrots, Rosellas, Kookaburras and Ducks are tame enough to hand feed. For something different visit Grey River Road Picnic Area after dark to view the colony of Glow Worms.

Walks - Kennett River

Kennett River Walk - At the Wetlands near the bridge, follow the river upstream. Distance: 25mins one way.

Kennett River Koala Walk - Start at the shop, walk up Grey River Road looking for Koalas.

Kennett River to Wye River - Walk along the coast over beach and rocks. Distance: 2hours one way.

Grey River Lookout Walk - Start at the picnic reserve 6km up Grey River Road. Distance: 30mins one way.

Picnics

Wye River Heritage Walk - View all historic sights including Paddy's Path. Distance: 90mins.

Wye River Walk - Start in the playground next to the General Store, follow the river upstream. Distance: 25mins one way.

Paddy's Path - Start next to the CFA, the path follows the old timber tramway. Distance: 20 mins one way.

There are many other walks throughout the area, beautiful walks along the beach, and amazing trails through the lush temperate rainforests of the Otway Ranges. For the more adventurous why not take on the 104km Great Ocean Walk...

Bicycle Riding

Road Cycling - Ride in any direction up or down the Great Ocean Road from Kennett River for a truly memorable and breathtaking ride.

Mountain Bike Riding - Forrest Mountain Bike Trails, Australia's number 1 Mountain Bike Destination. Trails are suitable for all riding abilities from easy green runs to the very difficult black runs. Visit www.rideforrest.com.au for more information and to download trail maps.

Create your own cycling loop or do a car shuttle with friends following the many roads and 4WD tracks throughout the Otway National Park, steep climbs to the top of the range with exciting down-hill runs back to the Great Ocean Road.

Surfing

Opposite the park is the right hand point break of Kennett River, nice long rides. Works best on the low tide and is suitable for all ability levels and is ideal for both longboarders and short boarders. The river mouth has a nice righthand break that works on a higher tide. A short walk from the park gets you around to Sawmills, a great right hander which only works when the swell has increased in size. A short drive towards Apollo Bay brings you to the more powerful waves of Boneyards and Pink House.

Fishing

There's no better fishing area than the Otway Coast between Lorne and Apollo Bay. With rocks, rivers, the beach and boat fishing, everyone is catered for. Its wild, remote and the fishing is great!

King George Whiting, Salmon and Snapper are common. Popular baits are squid, blue bait and pipis.

There is mullet and bream fishing in the estuary of Wye and Kennett Rivers with trout and eels found further upstream. Boat launch areas off the beach are found at the 163km sign post between Wye and Kennett only a couple of hundred metres from the park, 4WD vehicles essential.

Driving

There are some fantastic drives and motorcycle rides to complete taking in the best of the Great Ocean Road and the Otway Ranges. There are numerous planned tourist routes such as the Coast and Ranges Drive, the Forrest and Views Drive and the Waterfalls and Rainforest Drive.

There are many 4WD tracks throughout the Otway's. Most dirt roads from the Great Ocean Road join the Benwerrin - Mt Sabine Road creating some wonderful circular drives. Many of these roads are closed seasonally.

Dining & Shopping

Koala Cove Cafe in Kennett River has a good selection of grocery items, take-away food, coffee and are well known for their burgers. Open 7 days a week.

The Rookery Nook Hotel in Wye River has probably the best views along the coast. They have meals available 7 days a week. Take-away Alcohol sales and a pool table.

The General at Wye River have a good range of grocery items, take-away food and a great restaurant. Open 7 days a week.

Lorne & Apollo Bay have a great selection of Cafes, Restaurants and Take-away shops. There is a great selection of clothing, boutique shops and galleries. All your needs are covered with Supermarkets, Butcher, Green Grocer, Chemist, Newsagency, Post Office, Hardware Store, Hospitals and Doctors.

Tourist Attractions

Otway Fly

The Otway Fly Treetop walk is a unique rainforest experience. The 600 metre long, 25 metre high elevated tree-top walk leads you to the 45 metre lookout ascending through a magnificant stand of cool temperate rainforest. Cape Otway Light Station

Just off the Great Ocean Road you can visit Australia's most significant lighthouse built in 1848 surrounded by the Great Otway National Park, spectacular sea cliffs and deep blue ocean. Visit www.lightstation.com for more information and tour times.
